Radio Wiring ?

On my 84 Z I have noticed that the yellow (hot in Acc or Run) radio power wire is hot with 11.29 volts when the key is off. I am using the factory wire harness for the radio. Straight battery voltage is 12.38v. Any ideas what could be making the wire hot when the key is off?

Re: Radio Wiring ?

Check to see if the wipers operate without the key in the ignition.

The Radio fuse gets it's "IN" power from the brown wire leading from the Ignition switch. This brown wire also feeds the windshield wiper fuse so if the wiper is also getting power with no key - the ignigion would be suspect.

* All bets are off if there's been any cutom wiring done ! ( very common with radios ! ) Be sure to check for spliced wires.

Re: Radio Wiring ?

I checked the wipers with the ignition off and key removed, wipers do not operate. I am utilizing the stock wiring harness for the radio as I am the original owner of the car. I powered up the radio circuit with the key in Acc. position and voltage was 12.3. A few minutes later I checked the circuit with key off and removed and measured 4.0-3.5 volts.

Thanks for the reply.

Check on that yellow wire to make sure the PO did not install a capacitor across it.
