Weird issue

Hi!
My friend changed my startengine for a ministarter yesterday.
Everything working fine but when I openened the trunk with the button inside---guess what happened--the trunk opened AND the startengine was engaging(but not ignition). The button does 2 things....freaks me out.
Any ideas?
Sorry for my English.

Re: Weird issue

Did your friend get power for the switch from the trunk button?

When he replaced the startengine it was only engaging occasionally.
He was forced to do som wiring/electrical actuator because the ministarter needed more Power.
But nothing stupid he said, he was as baffled as I.
He had no solution/explanation and said that old american cars often has bad Electronics. The car is working fine but what should I do?
Except open the trunk with a key...haha

Re: Weird issue

Greetings to Stockholm.

Ask your friend whether he put a relay on the starting circuit to give more power to the mini-starter.
If he did (it disturbed the balance of the universe), you have two options:
A) remove the relay and keep the starting system stock (should not need any modifications even for the mini-starter)
B) rewire the trunk pop button in the center console to use the parking brake signal instead (you can talk to me about that)

Normally, an extra relay that would not be a problem. But you own a Chevy (!) so you have to realize that they did stupid things in the car design. Should have bought an Audi instead. ;-)

Re: Weird issue

Hello!
Thanks for the tip.
I´ll go for plan B in awhile. The new starter is takin heat much better.
This car really makes me smile so it´s worth some trouble.
Peace

Re: Weird issue

You sure can go with option B but beware that other systems that depend on the starter system being intact might not work properly either. I know there are a few but forget which ones.
But I would still find out from your friend why he used a relay on the starter circuit in the first place. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad idea, but Chevy does not let you get away with that easily.
