Digital Dash fuel gauge isn't working.
Hello, I have an 87 GTA with digital dash. I bought this car a few months ago and haven't found a thread to help me yet. When I put 40 bucks of gas in the tank, the gauge only goes up maybe 3 bars (like a tenth of a tank). But when the car is almost out the gauge does beep (I purposely ran it out to check). I've put as much as 50 in and still I only get 3 bars... Anybody know what I can do? Is it the dash, or the sensor in the tank? Thanks guy

At least you know the warning indicator works !!!
How many bars light-up when the key is turned to RUN ??
I've had cars that show an over-full tank,..... then run out of gas AS SOON AS the needle hits the Empty mark. I've also had them work opposite too; when they barely reach the FULL mark but the needle will go below the Empty mark before the car runs dry. My latest ThirdGen has a gas float that swings widely - or bounces - as I drive around corners and hills. ( they all do that, but this one bounces more than normal ! ) I can only be sure of the gauge when I'm sitting still on a level surface !
Your issues is probably just the way the float sits in the tank......... FILL the tank ( let the gas pump run till the pump quits pumping ) and see how many bars are displayed and compare that to the number of bars you see at "start-up".
