back fire please help
Hi recently my car wasnt getting a spark so i replaced the entire distributor cap with an identical red instead of black dist.cap. It finally got spark but now it runs smooth then while idleing or throttling it periodically has a backfire now it did not do this before i had to replace the cap and it was only sitting for a month. And when i took the new cap back apart i found the the same wire that had shorted out in the old cap is now starting to short on the new one. Now i did replace the spark plugs and wires.ignition switch.Any idea its a 82 z28, sbc350,hei delco remy dist vacuum assist, edelbrock 600,

Short Answer
If the short causes a temporary misfire, then a backfire can occur.
Distributor caps don’t have wires in them.
When you say “same wire” do you mean plug wire, or an internal distributor wire?
Do you see arc tracks in the new cap?
