vats problem

Will the vats system on my 90 Camaro allow my car to turn over but not allow the injectors to spray fuel?

Re: vats problem

It should not let it crank as well. When it's tripped the vehicle dies. Lights still work but that's it.

VATS has 2 parts ; starter disable and injector disable.

It is possible (but rare ) for one part to fail and the other to be working.
If you have a VATS fault on the fuel component then you should have a code 46 showing.

If you don't have a VATS code up , then the ECM is correctly getting the fuel enable signal from the VATS module
and the lack of injectors is from something else.
Checked the injector fuses , checked injector wiring for open and shorts?

A bad ICM in the dist ( tells the ECM the engine is rotating so it will pulse the injectors ) is a common fault

Re: vats problem

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I'm having the same issue. It will crank, but I'm getting no fuel. I've checked the wiring and everything is good. I'm getting the code 46 from the ECM. I bought the Hawks Vats override module but it didn't work either. I tried both the 50hz (standard) and 30hz (it said some from 90-93 used that) signals with no luck. I'm at a loss of what to try next.

Re: vats problem

Your profile doesn't state what year your car is if its tbi or tpi just to verify the ecm pin location of the vats signal. Most modules have a accessory power, ground and the choice of modulated signals use the 30hz at 50-60 %.

Re: vats problem

It's a 92 with TPI. Right now I have the 30hz wire hooked up to the dark blue wire that goes to pin F10. I'm looking at an old Chilton's manual and that wire is showing coming from the pass-key decoder module to the ecm. I have it hooked up to ground and an accessory power properly, and the LED is turning on with the key in the on position as it should.

Re: vats problem

No, but the engine is turning over. You just need to bypass that if it won't crank right?

Re: vats problem

Correct, The only other thing I can think of to check the output of the hz modulator if your volt ohm meter has a hz setting you can see what its putting out. If its not putting out the proper frequency Im not sure what there return policy is. On tpi, and 3.1L until the end of the month I will reprogram out the vats for $30 retun shipping with a tracking number.

Re: vats problem

Mine can only check voltage and resistance, but I'll try to get my hands on one that can to test it. Sounds good. If I can't get this thing working I'll let you know. I appreciate the help.

Re: vats problem

Np, just back probe the f10 cavity with a paper clip and make sure your signal splice is good..
