Gauges have no idea what they are doing

Car: 83 Camaro Z28
Engine: 5.7 Vortec 4bbl
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.23 4th gen axle
Gauges have no idea what they are doing
Hi, do the gauges need to run through the ECM? Because I had a TPI engine, but didn't have the computer so I just did it with a HEI and a carb, but now that I put the gauges in they don't really do much.
For example, most of them don't move, but sometimes the fuel gauge will go from E and just flip upsidedown, or the tach will decide its actually a backlight. And then another time the speedo, which isnt even plugged in just started moving around.
So I was thinking it's either a lack of ECM problem or did I just mess up the wires somehow?
The cars an 83 but the dash and gauges are out of a 91, I already looked up the pinouts for both year gauge plugs, I could have messed them up though.

Even tho pin numbers change from year to year, colors stay the same.
Connect same colors together.
You can test/connect thru a fuse at first to make sure you’re not creating a short in the cases of where multiple functions use the same color.

Thanks so much, all of them work but the tach now, but it's an automatic so eh, Ill figure it out.
