Radio problem

I've had a reoccurring problem with multiple radios in my 82 Camaro. I have had to rerun a constant wire, and I thought I had it fixed. But it then began to work randomly or not at all, basically what it had been doing. So I ran test wires straight to the battery... And somehow my antenna set up was running as a ground? It seems to have shorted out both my head units so they do not play.. And comments, advice, or fixes? Is there a way to fix the set up? Or do I need to purchase another one? (Pulling antenna set up tomorrow)

Re: Radio problem

Your antenna is supposed to be a ground, that's what makes it work. Actually, if you have a weak signal you should clean up the ground on the antenna.

I used to run a car audio shop way back when and now I wire fire chief trucks and limos. I bet your problem is a blown speaker. When a speaker is blown, it acts as a dead short. The factory amp can't handle the current, so it burns out.

The only way to test for a blown speaker is to remove it and measure the impedance at the terminals WHILE slowly pushing on the cone. You will see the meter go to infinity or -- depending on how your meter reads.

Good luck!
