"Generic" Toggle Switch for Power Windows
I want to replace my power window switches because...well they suck and hardly work lol. I was wondering if it's possible to replace my power window switches with these?

Re: "Generic" Toggle Switch for Power Windows
A 3-wire toggle will work but you really should get something that is spring loaded to automatically turn off when you are done with it. Otherwise, if you bump it or forget to turn it off, it will get constant power and possibly fry the window motor.
I highly recommend just holding out for the original style.
btw, are you sure it's the switch and not the window motor or old dirty window tracks? The switch is super extra easy to test with a continuity meter.

*Edit*
Oh and sometimes they'll smoke or are very hot to the touch. I'm guessing the guy that had the car before me didn't quite wire them perfectly.

Re: "Generic" Toggle Switch for Power Windows
I had a sweet spot on my driver's switch to make the window go down. I couldn't figure out how to get it apart without destroying it so I poured alcohol down mine while feverishly working it. After blowing it out with compressed air it works great. Otherwise:

Re: "Generic" Toggle Switch for Power Windows
The switches fail because of the way GM designed the harness, not because of any inherent issue with the switch itself.
Rewire the window circuits correctly using relays and the proper gauge of wire, and a good set of factory switches will outlast the car.

The Summit one you are showing will not work because it is single throw.
No.
He needs a “6 wire” switch, A.K.A. double pole double throw center off spring loaded optional, even tho 2 of the terminals will be connected together.

Re: "Generic" Toggle Switch for Power Windows
It's going to require a bit of rewiring...
Go to RadioShack and browse their switch drawer. Inside you will find a 20A 12V DPDT center-off momentary switch, number 273-709.
You will need to connect the power to one side of the middle terminals and the ground to the other. Then you need to take a short piece of wire to each of the front terminals and CROSS them (front left to rear right and vice versa because the factory switch does this internally so it only needs 4 wires) before attaching them to the rear terminals before attaching the wires that will run to the factory harness.
These, however, will NOT fill the factory window switch holes.

Re: "Generic" Toggle Switch for Power Windows
Thanks for the great tips/info guys. I was thinking about going with like a nitrous switch for all three of the middle console switches....but I don't have much of a knowledge base with switches or most electrical components unfortunately.
