Electronics Need help wiring something up? Thinking of adding an electrical component to your car? Need help troubleshooting that wiring glitch?

Is this killswitch idea possible, or am I just fantasizing?

Is this killswitch idea possible, or am I just fantasizing?

Now that I've started putting lots of money into my car I've started thinking about installing some form of killswitch but I want to make it a little more different than the typical flip switch route. Basically what I was thinking was due to my car being a gta with the steering wheel controls would it be possible to create a 'code' and punch in a certain sequence of the buttons on the steering wheel to enable the engine to be engaged when you turn the key but won't be able to start otherwise?

I was looking around, and while I Couldn't find anything about sequences of buttons to use as a killswitch, I did see one idea I really liked. Wire your defrost switch to be a killswitch. Didn't have any diagrams to go with it, was just an idea, but I liked it. I do know it's possible to use button sequences stuff like this, I've read about people doing it. I just wouldn't know where to begin.

Im actually really tempted to try something like this myself on my formula. I have an extra switch panel floating around from a base model with a switch for foglights. Since I have no foglights on my car a blank switch that blends in perfectly is exactly what I need. This could be really fun, thanks for getting me thinking!

Hopefully you guys have basic aftermarket car alarms to start with, otherwise they can just sit there quietly tearing apart your car.
Kill switches are nice and make it almost impossible to steal but if I were to add anything to the car concerning theft it would be a extra siren inside the car and a battery backup for the alarm system.

Some thought required
There are any number of switch / keypad circuits you can build but they still either have to interrupt something through a relay
( starter?) or generate a required signal , say fuel enable like the factory VATS does .

Time permitting any starter interrupt is easily bypassed by running a wire direct from the battery to starter solenoid
( don't park in dark alleys ) which is why the factory system also disabled the fuel supply by taking out the injectors

Here is a schematic of a system of pushbuttons which must be pushed in the correct order to activate the ignition or any device on the car.

The system automatically resets when the car is shut off.

This schematic shows a ‘3 digit combination’, however there is no limit to the quantity of digits, you simply add more relays and pushbuttons or any type of momentary switch(es) to the circuit.

You can even eliminate carrying you car key by incorporating the required resistor into a relay - a plus for those modifieds that don’t need steering/shifter locks.

(It’s generally recommended to use automotive relays with built in diodes.)

You can use solid state relays if you want.
