are gauge clusters engine specific?
I saw an gauge cluster (looks identical to mine) for sale that specified it was for a v6 car. I have a v8. Always was a v8. I really can't imagine that the cluster would be specific to a v6 or v8 but just wanted to ask here first.
This is for an 83 Trans Am. so 82-84 cluster with all the gauges, not idiot lights.
any ideas?
thanks

the tachometer will be off since you have two more cylinders.

I can swap tachs from my old cluster and it should work correctly right?

Re: are gauge clusters engine specific?
They already are gauges. Cluster I am looking at is identical to mine. Always had gauges in the car. Looks to me like swapping the tach should fix the tach problem and all else is just gonna plug in and work fine then.
if anyone else has any knowledge let me know.
Thanks!

I think that the v6 and v8 speedo is run differantly. If not mistaken the v8 carb would have a vss buffur or somthing like that and the v6 is run off the ecm getting info from the spedo.at least the later modles that were tpi v6's
