85 s/c getting 84 fb
I have a 85 sport coupe 2.8 car Im putting a lg4 firebird motor into.resone I'm here is the gauges. If I can keep from it I dont want to put the firebird dash into my camaro just to get the speedo and other gauges to work.my s/c dosnt have a tach.both trannys are mechanical speedo as far as I can tell.the conector at the ecm end going to the engine harness only has about 6 wires.where the firebird dash has about 10.is the a vss buffer in the v8 dash.If I gota move the harness I might as well swap the dash's.I like the camaro better.

Use the sending units from the old engine on the new engine. Other than the tach, the sending units and gauges don't care how big the engine is or where it came from.

what about the speedomiter? will it need anything other than the cable hooked up from the firebird dash. Are the vss only in the 88 and newer cars?

I know the 90-92 cars have electric speedometers, I believe 89 and under have are cable driven. You may have to replace your cable gear to get an accurate reading but your cable should just screw onto the replacement transmission.
