3.8 Sc question(please help)
I recently bought a new family hauler with the 3.8 supercharged V6 in it. It has 83000 miles on it and runs pretty good. The other day i noticed a strange rattling noise comming from the engine bay. It sounded just like when my bearings in my Iroc's altenator went south. It turns out that the sound is comming from the supercharger. After doing a little research I find out that these Eaton units require a re build after 60000 miles. Is this true? What will happen if I do not replace/rebuild the unit? Will it blow up or simple wear out and become less effective?Lastly, can the supercharger be bypassed, will removing the belt and bypassing the S/C cause drivability problems? I realize that this is not a thirdgen realted question but alot of you guys have supercharger expierience and might know someone with a 3.8 in a similar predicament, or have expierienced this problem with your S/C( although the centrifugal might be totally different reliability wise than the roots style s/c on my car). I did change the oil in the s/c and it is quieter now but the rattling is still there.
