VSS Replacement - sensor discontinued?
Hi all,
1992 Camaro RS 5speed. I just went on a long car cruise and my speedo died on my half way through. I have a signal conversion box for aftermarket gauges and the box is telling me its not getting a signal from the speed sensor. I ordered a new sensor from rockauto, which was standard motor products sc12, and this sensor is not the correct one. The part number I have on my old sensor is 10456087, and this part has apparently been discontinued. Does anyone have another part number for this part or can you suggest any solutions besides going through a junker? Thanks in advance

Re: VSS Replacement - sensor discontinued?
I appreciate the help but unless I have the wrong part for my year, none of those are the right style. Mine is shorter, and has the o-ring on the cylindrical extrusion for the rod that goes into the tranny. It does look like it uses the same connector but that doesn't make a difference if it doesn't fit. Thanks anyway

If you look carefully you will see that the mounting bracket on the sensors you have provided have a slight bend in them and are too large. Also, the o-ring on that sensor is right after the bracket and that section is way larger than will fit inside my transmission. This is another image of the one I need

Re: VSS Replacement - sensor discontinued?
I may go with a gps speed sender specific for my speedometer instead so I don't have to worry about finding another one if the vss fails again. Does anyone know if the gps sender has to go through the ecm if its meant to output directly to the gauges? Does the ecm need the signal for anything (i don't have cruise control)?

Yes
If the ECM does not know the speed it will not know when you are slowing down
