Brake light - that little black box?
Brake light - that little black box?
Hey guys,
My passenger side brake light doesn't work, until I tap that little black box under the driver side lights.
What is it? Can I open it and re-wire it?
Thanks
Asim

Re: Brake light - that little black box?
sorry, let me clarify. The little black box is inside the car under the drivers side tail lights behind the rear panel. All the wiring for the lights seem to go into it.
Thx

Re: Brake light - that little black box?
first what kind of third gen u got second its a small possibility that it could be a break light switch or simply loose wiring ---- that little black box, is a relay for the rear hatch motor that is behind the plastic panel in the trunk if im wrong let me know

You didn’t specify year and model so this is slightly generic:
From the factory the left brake light is simply connected to the right brake light.
Now, you might have a bad connection from the left brake light to the right brake light which is making intermittent contact when you are tapping that area.
You should remove the left brake light lens/housing, then wiggle the blue wires, one at a time, at the left brake light socket, while you have a friend press the brake pedal.
When you do that does the right brake light come on?
If yes you have several ways to fix it.
You can try to crimp the connector the 2 blue wires are going in OR replace the socket OR tap into the input blue wire and connect it to the output blue wire.
