Hatch Pull-down Assembly

Hello folks,

I've struggled to get my hatch pull-down assembly to work since I've owned the car for about a year now. I think I've finally figured out what is going on, but when I was testing my motor I shorted two wires together and they got a little toasty... Turns out I blew my fuse because I'm no longer getting any power to my motor. Easy fix, replace the fuse. However, I can't find the fuse. I've checked ALLDATA and my Pontiac books and the only direction to this location I have is, "Above the Fuse Block Taped to the I/P Harness." I've only pulled a bit of the underside of the dash apart and I've looked as far as I can above the fuse block and can't seem to see anything that looks like a fuse.

Has anyone had to replace this fuse? If so, where is it.

If its more trouble than its worth I may just run a new wire with an inline fuse and call it good.

Thanks for the help!

Look near the fuse block. It is in a black fuse holder, but is not actually in the fuse block/box. Just dangling there; doesn't look factory at all. Check my second photo here and look at the wiring harness.

I'll check tomorrow to see if I can find it. If I replace it and still have issues, you know where I'm coming!

Correct that the hatch pulldown fuse for the Firebirds is not in the fuse panel, but is in a separate single fuse holder. But that fuse holder WAS originally slid onto a dovetail on the outside of the fuse block. It can be slid off that dovetail though, so look first for it to be attached to the outside of the fuse block. If it is not there, look for the single fuse holder somewhere NEAR the fuse block, then attach it properly.

Re: Hatch Pull-down Assembly

Do you know of where I could see how the pulldown assembly is hooked up to the rear wiring harness? I have a 1989 Formula, and the pulldown assembly looks exactly like this, but for the life of me I can't figure out how it attaches to the rear wiring harness.

Re: Hatch Pull-down Assembly

There is a blue wire for hot (connects to a red wire with a white tracer) and a ground screwed to the body. The white is unused in every car I have seen.

That white wire plugs into a black with orange-stripe wire on late 89 to early 91 cars. It turns on/off the rear hatch light.

Re: Hatch Pull-down Assembly

Thank you! I'm going to print this out and take it to the garage (no internet access there) and see what I can figure out. Working on a 1989 Formula total restoration, and want to get all the wiring working before the interior is done.

Re: Hatch Pull-down Assembly

Hey guys. I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. I have everything in your picture coming off my wiring harness. I see a connector like the one connected to the blue wire (bottom left of your picture). Is that the fuse? Is it built into that connector?
