Windshield Washer pump stays on with wipers

Hey guys,

As the title says, I installed a Wiper motor assembly from an 83 Camaro into my 85 Trans Am. Everything plugs in fine, but, when I turn on the wipers the washer pump turns on too and stays on as long as the wipers are moving.
As soon as I turn the wipers off the washer shuts off too.

Any idea whats going on or how I can fix this? Is there a difference internally between an 83 and an 85 wiper motor?

Thanks

Im pretty sure the wiper motors are completely different between the years. Is this a recent situation or has been for awhile. I say replace the entire thing unless you can take it apart and clean the contacts as sometimes corrosion can cause the board to do odd things

its not the wiper motor that youre having trouble with .its the motor cover/logic module that is specific to the car.when you play mix-n-match .this is often the result.try and find a motor cover for your specific car.be advised no body makes a replacement. so, happy hunting

Re: Windshield Washer pump stays on with wipers

Search for another replacment unit,... 84-87 Camaro, IROC, Z28 ( NOT Berlinetta ! ) or Firebird, Trans AM, GTA unit will be a direct fit.

If you can’t find a cover/circuit board you can install this circuit.

For R1 start with 4700 ohms, and C1 5μF.

That should render about 5 seconds of wash time, and only when you press the Wash Switch.

For more time increase the values of C1 and or R1.

For less time decrease the values of C1 and or R1.

The above will return factory performance.

Happy Racing!

Re: Rain Pain

Whoops, I never updated.

It turns out I had an extra motor in my garage. Put it on and works fine now.

Thanks for that schematic though!
