cigarette lighter outlet shorts fuse when plugged in?

Axle/Gears: Stock
cigarette lighter outlet shorts fuse when plugged in?

Any time I plug a phone charger (or anything for that matter) into my cigarette lighter outlet, it shorts my radio fuse and my radio, cigarette lighter outlet, and interior overhead light stop working. What could be causing this? and how can I fix it?

The issue is one common with our cars. To eliminate the problem, many members replace the lighter with an after market version of some sort. A search will provide more info/insight.

BTW, to avoid potential problems, I installed a second lighter under the pass side kick panel where it's invisible.
