How Do I Remove Cigarette/Defrost Bezel?

I went to replace my defroster bezel with a better condition one that I bought and I unscrewed the bezel and it pulled out about 1/2 inch. Seems like there are wires back there and they arent giving me any slack to pull the bezel out far enough to remove everything.

Any ideas?

The connector for the cigarette lighter is most likely hanging up on the plastic. If you can sneak in there with a small screwdriver you can get it off. It has a hook on both sides that clamp aroudn the back of the lighter housing.

So has that happened to you before? So Im imagining it has an L shaped plug going to the back of the element and is getting hung up inside the dash?

If you can't get to the plug in the rear then:
Unscrew the cig lighter!

Remove fuse then stick fingers in cig lighter hole and turn guts counter clockwise.
This (usually) will unscrew/seperate the cig lighter guts front portion from the power point and plug rear portion thats holding it in place.

No L-shape. Note that I managed to manoeuvre the connector through the dash, making the disconnect much easier.

To remove the lighter from the bezel itself, you do need to unscrew the parts. The lighter above wouldn't budge until I shot it with a bit of WD-40. After unscrewing, the silver piece simply pushes through the bezel.

Perfect. This thread will be useful in the next week or two when I (FINALLY) have a garage to work in again.

YUP!...............James also had the right idea and pics too!
Thats the EASY way Because the power wire locks/clips onto the lighter
and its a PIA to access it from the back !!!!!!!!!!!

I may need to do this eventually as well. This will be a good reference thread.
