Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

My turn signal switch isn't sticking to the right for some reason. It will to the left, but not the right. I have to go in to get the safty inspection sticker again, and I know they check this. The singal does work, it just doesn't stick. Any ideas?

that was my guess, stupid plastic breaks. if you talking about it staying to one side it is a broken return spring on the cam.

Probably the multifunction switch. To this day they are still going bad in GM cars.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Dang. It returns to it's nuetral position when I'm not using it, and it sticks to the left just like normal, but if I want to go right it WILL trigger the signal but it WONT stay there. I have to hold it in place and then it returns to its neutral position.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

x2 on the multifunction switch, it was the problem with mine. Where do you get them? The only source I could find over here in Oz wanted over $200 for one.

The switch has a channel cast into it, in which guides a pin on the lever arm that actuates the blinker switch. The channel gets reamed out over time by the pin, and the lever arm can't quite get the travel required to click the blinker switch.

Not wanted to spend the $200, I actually managed to fix mine by building up the channel again with 'liquid metal' aka jb weld. Much better than having to hold the thing there by hand while turning, has worked fine for years now.

Also check that the screw that holds the lever arm down is not loose, will have the same effect.

I posted the acdelco part number. you can go to rockauto.com to see other manufacture part numbers. Im sure a light part like that would be no more that 15 to ship to australia.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Be careful where you source it from, most of the non-GM ones are going to have the wrong finish or font color on them, and many of them are missing cruise control. I would expect to pay around $200 for a correct GM one if available.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Mine Doesn't have cruze control, which I already thought was fishy. Maybe it was already replaced with a crappy one, and that's why it doesn't work right. ?.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Probably because your car doesnt have cruise control. It wasn't standard equipment.

The obvious solution is to go to a boneyard and pillage one from another car. Most of them are good enough to work. And it will save you $190.

I don't know of any junk yards around here that carry allot of thirdgen parts. I'll just have to find somebody online who does.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Hang on guys, we're not talking about the same parts.

Navy - you are referring to the control stalk itself.

Tuneperformance - you are referring to the circular blinker switch that fits over the column - sorry the ebay link you posted did not have a photo, and I just traced the part number.

I was referring to the mechanical combination switch that the stalk plugs into. It actuates the blinker switch, high-beam switch, and wipers. This is the part that I had to fix.

Yup. That looks like the problem. Everything else on the **** works fine, but the switch doesn't stick when I turn it in to the right hand position.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Check this thread out on pulling the column apart:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...-steering.html

Post 1, 4th pic re-attached here - look at the number '3' - to the right and above that, is the screw that holds down a little black arm. One end of the arm has the pin that engages the channel in the aforementioned combo switch, the other end moves the blinker switch.

If this screw is loose, the arm won't be able to move the blinker switch till it clicks, same if the channel in the combination switch is worn too far.

Thanks man. Looks like another project to me haha. I need to get an owner's manual. I have a repair manual but I'm not sure it has all the info I need.

Re: Any Ideas why my turn signal switch won't stick to the right?

Yeah, its a pita to get to. Pulling the column apart kind of forces you to acquire the right tools and swear heaps, but it's much easier the second time! Hardest parts are:

* Pulling the steering wheel. Will need either the right puller, or make something up.
* Depressing the lock plate. Need the correct compressor, or make something up.
* Sanity check whilst keeping track of where all the little parts came from, and the order in which they go back together.

yah. I'll have to just video tape it so I can remember which goes where haha.
I may need to do this when I go to fix my horn anyway, I don't know why it won't honk. It's a little seperated at the top and my friend thinks the air bag may have deployed. But that is another thread for another day.
