Dash wiring

I'd think they'd be the same, but is the dash wiring harness for an 88/89 Camaro the same as an 89 TransAm harness?? What about 90-92? I know the radio wiring's different & has airbags, but what about everything else? I have the VATS of course, A/C, Power Locks, Mirrors & Windows, I deleted the Rear Defog, got Fog Lights, Remote Hatch Rel, & TBI. My harness got badly tangled to the point the only way to untangle was ALOT of clippy & labley work..... 100+ to be exact.... And now I don't think I can safely fix it, been soldering connections & using heat shrink tubing, but still.

Re: Dash wiring

No,... a Camaro Dash Harness will not work in a Trans Am, no matter what year it is from. There are other other 'minor' harnesses in the F-bodys that are compatable from Camaro to Firebird of the same year ( power window/Lock harness, Heater harness, ect ) but the dash harness is not one of them.

If your searching for a replacement dash harneess your best bet is to stick with one from an 88-89 Firebird,.... preferably from a TBI car. Earlier harnesses connect to the body harness in a different spot. Later 90-92 harnesses might be similar to the 88-89,....but I'm not sure about the specifics.

P.S. Not all 88 Firebirds had VATS.

I was afraid the Camaro harnesses wouldn't work at all.... Stupid VATS. LOL Ok thank you very much for the help. Except for the 90-92 cars you've confermed my suspisions. I'll have to try and find out about 90-92 harnesses somehow. Sadly my repair manual only covers 89's lol

Re: Dash wiring

Does anyone happen to have a 90 Dealer Repair manual they could check to see if a 90 harness would work on mine? I can't afford $200 range right now. I can get a 90 for $30 but gotta see if it would work.

Re: Dash wiring

A quick look says that it's not a quick and easy "plug and play" when connecting an 88-89 Engine harness to a 90-92 Dash Harness. You can make anything "work",... but expect it to take a significant amount of wire re-pinning/splicing wires for it to work properly.

Here is the drivers side connection ( C100 )

88-89 ( From a 88 Firebird Shop Manual )

90-92 ( From a 91 Camaro Shop Manual )

Here is the passenger side connection ( C207 )

The wiring to the C100 and C207 plugs are interchangeable from camaro and Firebird from the same years range. ( some minor additions / omissions such as electric speedo wires for 86+ firebird, but cable for camaro till 90). Because the wiring locations at the plugs are compatible ( in correct year range, +/- specific wires like speedo ) an engine harness can be swapped from one car to another with very minor mods. However, the dash harness is specific to the Camaro or Firebird due to the different interior configurations and isn't compatible from Chevy to Pontiac.

Re: Dash wiring

If the 90 to 92 harnesses are anything like a camaro they are not really compatable as I know in the camaro they went electronic on the speedo and some other stuff which throws a wrench into using a older harness. I say stick with a older harness as you know its plug and play. Someone on here has to have one I bet.

Re: Dash wiring

I managed to get a new dash wiring harness from a friend, but I"m in need of a 91 Firebird dash C100 bulk head connector diagram. The bulk head connector is different from the one that was in my car, so I need to do alittle rewiring to make the stuff work. Thanks.
