Accelerating hard kills the volts and car dies.

hi all my problem is when i accelerate hard on the gas i loose all power.

the volt needle flux's about when the pedal is floored and then it drops to nothing and the stereo cuts out and eventually the engine stutters to a stop like the plugs aint got any power.

but the car starts up and idles fine and well and it looks like its charging sitting at about 14-15 volts?.

Also noticed when driving if you are not gassing it the indicators dont work propperley *aka click on and off* unless you are on the the gas.

i dunno ive ordered a new altinator just in case its that but im not sure it is since its charging the battery?

help please

Sounds like a broken wire or loose connection and the engine movement and vibration is breaking the circuit. How about engine to frame connection?

make sure the ground wire between the engine and firewall isn't missing.[or the engine and somewhere on the chassis]

Re: Accelerating hard kills the volts and car dies.

i found out where the problem is....

its a bunch or wiring on the passenger side of the engine its connected to the alternator and has wires going underneath as well * engine earth?* if i shake it while the engine is running it will cough and splutter or just kill the engine.

further investigation on Saturday with a case of beer i think.

It may just be loose or the connections need cleaning but it sounds like a broken wire. Try to separate them and see if wiggling a particular one causes the problem. Clean all the connections anyway.

Re: Accelerating hard kills the volts and car dies.

problem solved the nut had come off the starter and the connections were loose.

replaced the nut so theres no chance of play or the wires poping off and ready to rock and roll again.

thanks for the help guys.
