Hello!

I just recently got my '85 Camaro out of the shop and just got my first chance to drive it today. It's pretty amazing so far, but I had a question concerning the turn signals. I've never driven a car this old before, so some of it may simply be things I'm not used to.

When I activate a turn signal in either direction, the indicator light on the dashboard doesn't consistently flash. Most of the time, it stays lit when I toggle the lever. Occasionally it flashes like it is supposed to. From the outside, the signal lights in the front and the back flash, but they flash very slowly- not at the speed you would normally expect.

I also am not sure what purpose the lights on the side (small rectangular lights on the side panels, up near the front wheels) serve. One of them is out, but the other one is only lit when the turn signals are *not* engaged. When I flip the turn signal in either direction, the light goes out completely, and turns back on when I switch the turn signal off.

The car definitely needs some TLC concerning the electrics, but I suppose I just want to know how much of an issue I have here. Are the signal lights supposed to flash so slowly? Is the indicator light (for turn signals) on the dashboard supposed to flash, or stay lit? Are the lights on the sides turn signals, or just marker lights that are meant to stay on?

Thanks for any help that can be provided. I have a lot of work to do, but I'm looking forward to getting this thing in good shape. The dimmer switch for interior lighting is terribly finicky as well, so I won't be surprised to find out the wiring needs help.
