Wipers and Windshield Washer Spray issues

I've had sporadic issues with my wipers and windshield washer sprayer not working and not turning off over the past year. A few days ago it got to the point where it would never turn on.

So I took out the circuit board unit in there and filed all of the contact points a bit, and reinstalled it.

Now they will turn on, but the sporadic problem of the wipers not turning off still exists.

Also, the sprayer works, but if I just push the paddle to spray it won't ever stop spraying, unless I switch the wipers to a set speed. And if I do set them to a set speed (delay, low, high...) then it will spray either 10 or 20 times, using way more fluid than is needed.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

It’s the park mechanism or a bad switch.

Disconnect the wiper motor module connectors C1 & C2.

Have the wiper switch in the OFF position.

Have the key in the ACC position.

Measure voltage on C2a.

Measure voltage on C1b.

They need to be zero.

If you have voltage there the switch is bad, or a wire is shorted to a voltage source.

I'll get to this when I have time. Maybe this weekend.

If it's a bad switch, how difficult it is to repair the switch with prior experience in electronics? Hell if I'm gonna pay $150 for a new switch to fix a sporadic problem...

You won’t find it easy to repair.

It’s assembled with special tools and fixtures at the factory.

Due to the fact it’s sporadic, you might be able to remedy the problem with contact cleaner sprayed into any opening you can find.

I have restored impossible to get classic car switches by immersing them in contact cleaner overnight.

When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. WLow performance driver ahead.
