I just changed a fuse that is a 5 and a 15 and a 3 i did this because my rpm gauge and fuel and battery and temp gauge wasn't working but the mph was working so i thought this would help the problem but as soon as i changed out those fuses my rpm gauge flipped all the way to the right when i turned the car on and my fuel gauge went to half and the others were still messed up and my tail lights wouldn't turn off when i'd turn off the car and the car ... i'm not sure what to do ... because i checked the fuses again and the 5 and 3 were still messed up ... i used the tool that lights up ... the one to check the fuses .. i even used the tool to touch the wire from in back of the fuse box but my tool didn't light up so it's like i'm not even getting current through the wires ... i don't now what to do .. i don't know what i did wrong .. is there another fuse box i didn't check ... i don't know what to do please help. thank you. and the wire you see is the way the guy i bought the car from connected the radiator cooling fan

Are the headlights on with the tail lights too? If not then it could just be your brake lights staying on. Check the pedal and the switch behind the pedal that controls them.

What does the car do when it's running? because my gauges will sit at weird places when it's off too but they all 0 out when I turn the key to start it.

 

well i found the problem. you were right. the switch to the brake was off so the button was't being pushed. Thanks, but the fuse 5 and 3 still don't work. what do they power? and my other gauges still don't work only the mph still does. Would you guys know the problem?

Thank you, and hey how did you get your fixed up so nice? i got mine from some guy that miss treated it and broke so many things, and it's been really hard to fix it up. i paid $2400, and have put in about $2000 and still needs lot more. A mecannic told me a lot of vaccums don'y work so he said he had to cancel them out but i don't even know were theyu are at and now i'm seeing oil leak from the engine around the intake maifold and the bottom of the engine but i check the oil level with the stick think and it said it was full but it smelld like gas. i don't know what to do. people keep telling me to give up and sale the car but i really love this car and i don't want to give up. i want to make this car run good. i wonna get it running right and look good. i wonna fix it up. I don't know what to do. my dad is already out of the picture. he said he doesn't to help me at all with anything because he has to spend time with his knew wife. what should i do?

It just takes time and money and perseverance. Take baby steps and just keep your end goal in mind. If your car isn't rotted away with rust then it's worth trying to save. I can't speak on if you paid too much or whatever, that's not really my place.

You just gotta bite off little bits at a time (for instance right now you could tackle redoing the wiring, then maybe the vacuum, etc etc). That way you don't overwhelm yourself with work. Just pick a project to tackle in the car, ask plenty of questions on here, and be patient. If you put the work in you'll come out having learned a lot and having the car in the shape you want it to be. Hope that makes sense.

And my car does have rust on the roof from the inside of my car and on the hood a bit and on the side next to my front window and side window. What should i do about that?

 

Were you testing for voltage with the ignition on? Some fuses have no power until then, I believe even others have none unless the accessory it powers is turned on( wipers?)

You're welcome. That rust doesn't sound bad, if there aren't any holes through the metal (i.e. just surface rust) then just clean it good then spray it with some rust reformer (there's different brands, but it turns rust into primer). Once that stuff has dried, hit it with a wire brush to clean it up even more (brush it until all of what was rust is gone) then spray it again.

That will keep it from getting worse, at some point you would want to paint it.

 

Yeah the rust is pretty deep. I have pictures but i'm not sure how to post them. I'm able to view the pictures, but you say you're not.
