A previous owner of my 1991 Firebird tore out the battery bracket, so now the battery slides around very close to some potential grounding points. How was the battery originally kept in place?

When you bolt it down it holds onto the bottom of the battery, keeping it from moving.

 

Is this the bolt that I'm looking for?

 

If you are looking for one, I have a brand new one still in the packaging if you are interested. I bought it a long time ago and then found my original one so I didn't need it. I'm cool with $5 plus shipping if you want it.

Sorry for the late reply. So the previous owner had a battery much too large to fit into the battery tray, which is probably why it was missing the hold down in the first place. I got a new battery for it, and a cheapie universal hold-down which I had to bend to make fit, but at least my battery isn't flying around everywhere now. I ordered a floor jack and some jack stands, so next up is replacing the starter cable (it's barely holding on).

For now I'm going to hold off until I get everything in good working order, I've already spent more than I wanted to on this whole battery debacle . Thanks though!
