Car hot won't start!!!!
Hey guys
I'm new here but hopefully someone can lend a hand. I bought an 88 GTA and am having an hot start issue. If the car is cold it starts like a dream. If you drive it in warm weather and shut it off, it won't restart. It's acts like Vats. No fuel pump and no starter click, nothing. If I wait 5-10 minutes it will usually start.
Now I have jumped the Ignition with a resistor as shown on multiple posts but it still happens. I'm not sure where to go next? Any help would be appreciated.

Starter is getting heat soaked. If it's the original stater you may want to think about replacing it. If it's relatively new either get a solenoid heat shield or heat wrap from your auto parts store. That cured my problem on my '88 Firebird. Good luck.

You probably need to relocate the starter solenoid. You can web-search the procedure. The part is readily available for about $12.

typical issue with these starters. not saying that's the issue definitively but highly likely a new starter will cure it.
the LT1 starter is an excellent upgrade for the stock direct drive unit. lighter and better.

Re: Car hot won't start!!!!
The "no fuel pump" is the key statement here and surely proves that heatsoak ain't the issue . Does your car have vats ? I thought 89 was the first year for VATS ? Anyway , No matter how hot your starter got it still would do the 3 second prime , so you know the problem is beyond the starter . If your car really does have VATS the next thing I'd do would be to jump the VATS relay and see if the problem changes from no starter action to cranking the starter but no engine start . If this IS the case , then yes , VATS would be your issue . I was almost positive , however , that a VATS failure shuts off the starter and injectors , but still allows the 3 second prime ?
Anyway , report back what ya find , I'd be interested to hear what it was ....
