Protecting the Camaro
Hey guys! I have a few questions regarding security systems that work well with our types of cars. As I'm sure you know, our cars are somewhat less than secure. I moved too close to Norristown and have had my car broken into twice in the last two months. The first time they drilled out my locks and took nothing. Last night the same people struck again. They bent the window back until it popped out of the tracks and unlocked the door. This time they took my tool kit and radar detector. According to the police, they have been hitting cars all of the King of Prussia and Norristown area for a few months.
Obviously I've had enough of this ****. The car will be fully restored by the end of October and I want to protect her from any further violations. I am looking for a good car alarm that will dial my phone when someone enters the car. The system should also have something to detect if the windows are being tampered with. Proximity sensors would also be nice. Does anyone have any experience with systems like this? It there a system out there that will provide me the protection that I apparently need without breaking the bank?

Sorry about your loss, that is the worst. I haven't been broken into but I have had gas stolen from my tank. I'm not experienced with systems like that, though I know they exist (proximity sensors are popular for t top and convertible cars). Also though, you need to just not leave ANYTHING visible inside the car. There's enough "hidey holes" in the trunk area and stuff in these cars to make that possible.

We live about 1/2 mile from "Crackton" and had a few break ins over the years. GPS units were about the only things of value they ever got. Would always take any charging cords left in the cars too. No doubt for the other ill gotten goods they had no cords for. Got fed up and put a surveillance system in. Covered from every angle around the house and monitors in the main rooms. Make no attempt to hide the cameras either, they intimidate people. I had friends say they stopped by while I was gone and didn't know if I saw them on my cameras and explain why they were there. Systems are getting cheap and most have remote monitoring through mobile devices available.

Re: Protecting the Camaro
Yeah it was pretty careless of me to have left the bag in the car especially after the first time I got hit. I'm kind of bummed to have to invest in a security system rather than a bigger motor. Unfortunately I can't install random cameras around the property because I live in an apartment complex. After 5 confirmed thefts you would think that the complex would step up their security. Especially because it is a nice facility that is partially wooded and poorly lit.
