Re: wiring harness ?
Assuming that both cars are Automatics and that both harnesses are Firebird;
Those 2 years were pretty similar; I would expect there to be a minor change or 2 - but for the most part it's a pretty good "fit".
The 1 thing I can think of is that the 86 dash harness might not have a 12 volt "switched" power wire for the carb Electric choke wire.
Best advise is to print out the C100 & C207 diagrams from each year and start comparing each and every PIN to see what is and not a direct wire-to-wire fit.

Re: wiring harness ?
John in RI whats up.. Looks like you know a thing or two about harnesses. I just re-installed my tranny. 91 Rs. There are two grounds coming out of the wire harness rite where it sits on the bellhousing. Do I attach them to one of the bellhousing bolts or do they go elswhere. Of course it does not start rite up. I may have incorrectly wired my starter but I'll double check that after I get this squared away. Any help is appreciated.

The factory put ground connections on the back of EACH head.
You can bolt the heavy ground wires about anywhere on the motor,... the holes in the back of the heads is preferred over the bell-housing because it's easier to reach and so that removing the tranny ( for whatever reason ) will not effect the electrical system.
Back of the heads gets my vote !!

Re: wiring harness ?
Thanks or the quick response bro. However, it doesn't seem to reach properly to the back of the head. I'll give it another shot though. I'm working on it now. Dude I bought it from said it was a Z28. It's an RS with a Z hood and Wing. Not happy about that at all.
