continuation of the selector switch wire harness
so im finally tearing into this and the wire connector for the selector switch has 10 wires on the under side the order goes:
1. white
2. green
3. yellow
4. purple
5.brown
6.blue
7.light blue
8.black
9.light green
10.light brown
now the top side of the connector has 9 wires and they order:
1.green
2.yellow
3.purple
4.brown
5.blue
6.light blue
7.black
8.green
9. a light pink almost peach color..
so my question here is the 9th new color in the ordering i have listed is this the wire that the 10th was turned into? reason why im doing this is my front lower running light blinkers do not work and i have traced it back to the connector by taking it apart and spraying contact cleaner on it and zip tieing it together and the front left side worked, then i tightened the other end of the zip tie more and the right side worked but the left did not so i am almost positive it is the connector. i have purchased bullet style connectors and i am attempting to either A. cut and use the connectors on the wires so i have a guaranteed connection or B. order a new connector from rock auto and cut the excess leads and solder them onto the existing wire from the turn signal switch and then i have a new female top half and repeat for the bottom male half. i would appreciate your input and expertise on dealing with connectors and wires, thanks

I wouldn't use the bullet connectors. You'll end up with a huge bundle of wiring that will need zip tied in place. I would get the new connector halves and remove the wiring from them. Them remove the wires from your original connector and insert the into the new one. All you need is a small flat blade screwdriver, like from one of those precision screwdriver kits to depress the lock tab on the individual wires. Much easier and neater than cutting and soldering a bunch of wires, especially while working upside down under the dash.

Not sure of the technical name off the top of my head. I usually just call it the steering column harness connector. Only place I know of to get one is off another steering column. Fortunately, GM used the same connector in a ton of different models. So it should be easy to find one in a junkyard or possibly online(eBay).

Re: continuation of the selector switch wire harness
well i fixed it, previous owner was a complete idiot and had the whole connector in wrong wiring order so now all my blinkers work, power locks, and interior lights. solution was rather straightforward by heat shrinking connectors together and then taping them very tightly to hold better. in the process of driving to auto parts stores to get the needed supplies the water pump crapped out so that was replaced. now my car is quiet and heater works better and hotter. guess you go to fix one thing and end up fixing 2, sometimes 3... next is rebuild rear brake drums.. oh joy. meanwhile i type this and watch the news as low lives in my city burn stores down of course that's a whole other discussion.
