Canada Emissions Headlight Switch

Part of me wanted to place this on the Canada forum but thought it may be better here. So on the way into work today I got the great surprise of seeing in the reflection of the car in front of me that my headlights are not working. Which really was a surprise cause they worked fine last night. Messed around with them a little and I'm pretty sure it is the headlight switch.

Now for the question, I noticed that the when I look the part up on advanced auto it comes up with two switches. One with Canada Emissions and one with US Emissions. I remember reading that Canada has a daytime running lights starting in 1990. However I also remember something about decreased luminous intensity but I'm not sure if that was something that made it through. I'm not so much for the decreased luminous intensity but I would like the daytime running lights on cause I like the look. If anyone has got any information or has done the swap I'd like to know if you saw any difference in you headlights or if the switch does anything else besides the running lights and possible decrease in luminous intensity.
Advance auto's chat service was not very helpful with these questions.
