Re: Derale fan controller wiring
My guess is the inrush is too high and its blowing your fuse. DeRale seems to have built confusion into their kit it seems. So red normally associated with +12VDC is connected to fan - ? Ok....and I don't agree with the temp probe placement either-let the radiator donors job first before triggering the fan....I'd place it near the water outlet which would be down low before recirculating back into the water pump. The relay is rated as a 40/60A probably to suggest that @ 40A, it'll last 250,000 switching cycles and @ 60A it'll go for 100,000 cycles or less-thats common with all relays but it looks cool to have "60A" printed on the relay.
So assuming you wired it correctly, the inrush is killing your 25A provided fuse I'd say. In other words, that unit is not designed for a high powered factory style fan or one with excessively worn windings-either scenario will cause huge start up spikes. This is why a multi-step relay kit is more efficient. Post pics of your install tho-maybe we can spot something amiss....

I hope you can figure it out but if its defective I would send it back to Summit and simply buy one of these.
You can find them at just about any auto parts store on the shelf.
Don't let the price fool you. They are just very basic .

Part # 733653
I have two of these in my car now controlling two different fans on two different indapendant circuits. One is a 16in. and the other 14in.
Its been around two years now
But I would NEVER use the directions that came with them.
So I have been creating circuits of different strength for them for a long time now.
Here's what I suggest.
The controller goes on/in-between the low amp ground wire coming of off the relay. That means there is a very small amount of amperage controlling it.
Perfect.
Its the easiest way to do it and at a very nice price.
I chose to put them out where you can see them but you can hide it if you want.
I painted my controllers black. =

Re: Derale fan controller wiring
Yea thanks for all the help everyone i wired it completely wrong by hooking up the positive lead fan to 12v red wire in the kit it caused it to have to much power and amp going to the fuse which caused the fuse to pop everytime but now its working perfectly
