Wires With No Home (feat. a horrible engine swap)

The previous owner of my 1986 2.8L MPFI replaced the factory engine with another factory engine, but decided to not hook up all the cables and wires in the engine bay. It currently doesn't start, but I think I have narrowed it down to a fried grounding cable to the passenger frame rail. However, there is still a whole bunch of wires not hooked up that I am sure can't be good for the car. As a new owner I do not have any knowledge of the wiring of this engine. Is there a really good wiring diagram or a picture so that I can see where to start figuring out which wires are which and where they are supposed to go? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To be clearer, some of the cables are hooked up, it seems he tried to just do the essentials. However, as the car runs horribly when I start it with a boost, and the mechanical parts all seem to be in good working order, I have to assume he didn't hook up some important stuff.

you would be right, not many things can be left unhooked and it still run like it should ... looks like you can get the info you need here ...

The above Austin manual is a great resourse to use.

Can you take pictures of the wires/connectors in question and post them? That may help us help you.

Thank you all for your help, haven't been able to work on my camaro for a while because of problems with my daily driver (a real lemon on a Ram). I will post pictures of the wiring as soon as i can.
