Wiring for alt

Hey guys/gals. I have a 1988 Trans am with 5.7 TPI. When I got it the wiring as all messed up from people messing with it over the years. I am getting feedback in the charging system right now. I am wondering. There is a plug with 3 wires and another plug on the back for 1 wire. How does this need to be wired? I currently have it wired with a new pigtail for the 3 wires, to their respective colors, and the 1 wire is going to the battery. Is this correct as far as the one wire? I was told on Camaro and Corvettes that there is a distro block or whatever that wires go to and then feed to the battery. Mine does not have this block.
