....so carpet it out for an interior makeover, and I'm running all sorts of wiring, including a battery relocation to the spare tire well, AND an eventual amplifier. I'm looking to have two positive leads coming off the battery, one going to a junction up front, and another staying in back for the amplifier.

I see all sorts of fancy "multiple" cable terminals from Stinger, JL, RF, and of course all the others, but they're all just a hole/socket, with an allen screw that you would presumable crimp down on the bare wire inside the socket. Is this correct? Is this an acceptable connection? ....sure doesn't seem nearly as good as a crimp and solder.

....but.....I'm no expert, so I'm asking you guys.

 

My first attempt at doing this, and probably the easiest, best way was to get a battery with both side and top terminals. I picked a a replacement top post connector, the kind that has a groove for the wire and a top plate that bolts on to crimp the wire in place. It worked really well, but wasn't as "clean" of a look as I am after. It also limits your battery choices. This time around, since I need to replace the battery anyhow, I found a terminal extender at Walmart. It bolts onto the side terminal and holds the stock cable in place, but also has an extension to fit a second battery cable. You can use either the stock type cable end, or a crimp and solder style connection with a 3/8" hole. The extension and crimp and solder terminal cost less than $10 total.

You could use one of those battery post adapters that uses a wing nut on a single post to allow multiple ring terminals to draw from the same post at the battery and then run the wires to their respective locations like I did recently.

I also have a friend who is pissed double terminal batteries are harder to find.

 

Go to a hardware store and buy some copper pipe. Cut to the length of a connector. Put the stripped wire in one end and crimp it in place then solder the wire to the pipe. The other end you hammer flat and drill a hole in. This will give you the best connection for super cheap. Usually two copper crimp on terminals from the store are $3-4!
