Coolant fan is wired up to A/C selector
Coolant fan is wired up to A/C selector

Hey guys, I was taking the car for a spin around the block and I stopped and noticed that my temp gauge has shot up past 220 degrees! luckily I was still in my neighborhood and I was able to pull the car back in the driveway and figure out what is up. First of all this car has been really ghetto rigged on a lot of things, including wiring.
So I pulled the car into the driveway, turned it off and let it cool down a bit, and then started it back up to let it warm past operating temperature and the coolant fan still didn't turn so I turned the car off and unhooked what I think to be the coolant temp switch (the one on top of the intake manifold to the passenger side of the water jacket/thermostat housing) and I jumped it and the fan didn't turn on. Then i started looking for other sensors and etc etc no luck.
Here's the crazy part, I took a break and sat down in the car with the key on and was looking around and I started fiddling with the climate control settings, and ill be damned if the fan didn't turn on with the A/C setting.
How do I fix this the right way so that the fan is ran off through optimal sensor usage, unless having it rigged the way it is makes it more beneficial some way, but I don't see that being very likely.

The fan is supposed to come on with the ac. Some models used a pressure switch, others used a switch in the ac control head.
The two wire temp sensor in the water neck sends a temp signal to the ecm. Your (rs?) Should use a temp switch in the head. Grounding the single wire lead should engage the fan.

The fan in the early model cars is hooked up to the climate controls so that when you have the AC system running and running temps up, the fan brings it back down. Nothing rigged about that.
There's also a ground switch that is temperature controlled to turn the fan on automatically when temps get higher (around 230 IIRC). If you want to get rid of the AC switch, unhook the green wire that is coming out of the climate control harness and put a switch in that then connects it to ground.

What is your "normal" operating temps ??? Factory fans don't turn on till about 235 - unless manual override is activated by turning on the AC at any engine temp.
