Accessory ignition setting not working?

Recently bought an 89 camaro RS, the guy before him I think bypassed the VATS system(my keys don't have the chips in them) and there are a couple of (electrical?)problems;
I can only turn the ignition to ON, there is no accessory function that allows the radio(etc) to work without actually turning the car on.
Hazard lights don't work(both blinkers do)
And service engine soon light doesn't come on at all, even when turning the key.
Cruise control doesn't work.
Anyone know if bypassing the VATS would cause these problems?
Anyone have a solution to these problems?

Re: Accessory ignition setting not working?

First things first pull down the drivers side hush panels and pull down the steering column (two nuts on either side). Take a look at the ignition switch and see if the rod is working like its supposed to with the key in the ignition and moving it in all the positions:

ACCY
OFF
ACCY
Run
Crank

if not then there is your first issue and you should probably check for any obstructions, if the switch at the base of the column is messed up and what not.

As for other electrical issue look to see if the fuse box has been messed with at all or if there is missing loom or tape around wires.

As far as the SES light not working it could be one of three things- the wire is cut from the computer to the to the light - which I have seen atleast once
2. could be a bad bulb- simple enough - just replace it
3. could be that the light was pulled out of the dash because a previous owner couldnt fix the problem and simply hid the bulb to show you there is nothing wrong with the car - I have seen it before - it happens

cruise control could be a vacuum issue- so check vacuum lines or the module itself could be bad or the brake switch that shuts it off could be messed up

As far as your hazards it could be a wiring issue if it is hacked up that is or the flasher could have gone bad

good luck and post up what you find.
