VSS for 1992 manual trans

I've been searching for a VSS GM part number 10456087. It is a discontinued part and I cannot find anyone with one in stock. Any ideas on what might have to be done to get a working speedo? Tail shaft swap? Is there a way to modify an auto trans sensor? Thanks!

I found a good used one on ebay. It sux, but that's probably your best bet. Either that or get lucky finding one in a bone yard.

Are you sure your VSS is bad? You can bench test it with a power drill and a multi-meter to rule it out as being bad. If it shows life with the bench test then you probably have a gauge problem. Oh and a bad VSS usually throws an SES code too.
