Wiper problems-front-85 camaro
Hi All,
I have an 85 camaro 305 sport and when I installed the wiper motor which worked many years ago (before the car was garaged for 8 years) with both the 2 prong and the 4 prong wiring connectors attached, the blades only move a couple inches.
Then, when I removed the cover I found the blue" cam? thing was broke at the bottom of the plastic post that holds the cam on, which was OK before I reinstalled it (Not then knowing it had to be positioned a certain way), after repainting the motor (ignore the yellow arrow).
I also then discovered I did not transfer the contact prongs from the original motor I had to this one (unknown if it works, but it looked “fresh and has new grease on the plastic gears). When I did attach the 2 "contact prongs" on the cover, NOW, with only the motor connection wires on the bottom of the motor, it moves the 2 inches, BUT, when I then plug in the 4 wire connection on the side, NOTHING happens at all!
1. Can someone maybe explain what may be the problem and
2. what the cover controls, and
3. what the cam does
4. Also, Does anyone know what should work on the wiper if the blue cam thing is missing and I get a new motor (without a new cover as they don't sell new covers)?
thanks for any help you all can provide
confused tom
Re: Wiper problems-front-85 camaro
I know this is an old post but I wanted to reply in case anyone else is searching for a solution to this issue. Recently I too put the wiper cover on with the blue thingy pointing the wrong way. when I turned on the wipers I heard that awful crunch.
The blue cam allows the electronics to count rotations and stop at a certain point. without it the windshield wipers will not stop until you turn off the car.
It is getting hard to find a replacement cover for these cars and can be expensive. So I decided to create a model of the plastic part and 3D print one. The little black plastic shaft was broken on mine so I had to drill a hole a use a bolt with a nut on the outside.
I know this fix may seem kind of hokey but it worked and it saved me some cash. I will attach the model here. If you need one of these and don't have a 3D printer you can have it printed at a university or some libraries for a couple of bucks.
I hope this helps somebody someday. Please share this post if you know a better thread to post it to.

Re: Wiper problems-front-85 camaro
I have a cover with the same pointed cam, not the big cam. Does it make a difference which cam the cover has? Also, you mention that you installed the cover with the pin in the wrong place on the cover and heard a crunch. I did the same thing. Where should the pin ride on the cam?
