Wiper delay - not working
Hey all. Issue with my '85 Z28:
A while back, I did some searching and figured out that the delay on my (then) recently acquired Camaro was because of the non-electronic cover. The stalk and switch were both the delay type, and all of the wires seemed to be there.
Last weekend, I went to the junkyard and pulled a wiper motor cover with the electronics in it. Swapped the washer motor (mine was new), put it in... and it works the same as it did before, except I don't have the washer now. Basically, low and hi work, but in intermittent the wipers just stop where they are.
I noticed two contacts on the wiper motor that didn't seem to be making contact with pads on the wiper motor cover - I didn't know that they did anything, if there were springs or something on the motor I pulled it from I certainly missed them. I made connectors for these but there is still no change.
All the wiring seems to be correct as far as the schematic goes. I'll probably throw a multimeter on the connector here soon to see what's going on. What should I be seeing? Just a chance of a dead cover, maybe? It seems to be in excellent shape....

Hey there.
I found the issue - there are two little metal contact tabs that contact the wiper cover that I didn't see or know about. You need these two contact tabs for the cover to work.
With that said, I broke two of my covers until I found one on an '87 IROC that had a beefed up plastic unit with DIRECTIONS and only one place to put the drivepin =D It's been working excellent.
About your issue, I am not too sure. Wire short? Do you have the wiper unit with the washer pump in it?

I have wiper issues as well...maybe your experiences will help me. My 1986 Z28's wipers worked fine (there is no delay function) however, my washer didn't spray. I bought a new washer pump but when I installed it...it wouldn't shut off (it pumped until I unplugged it again). Now even though the new washer pump is unplugged I blow the wiper fuse every time I replace it and nothing works. A possible vital piece of information is that the signal/wiper stalk is and has always been loose in the column. The previous owner stated that he had it replaced. You guys think this switch is the problem? If I replace the signal switch my problem may go away? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey there.
A loose switch *could* be the problem, one of many things to check.
When I got my delay cover, as I said in the post, I couldn't get the washer working. After another replacement cover, the washer worked but wouldn't turn off unless I turned the ignition off or really played with the wiper switch. This really only applies to delay systems.
Does yours turn on when the wipers are off and ignition is on (always on), or only on the first time you go to use it? Do you have a delay switch/stalk? Or is the whole thing non-delay?

My washer pump came on immediately whenever the ignition was on and pumped continuously. I tried turning the ignition off and on, turning the switch off and on and nothing would stop it so I took the new washer pump back out (I have the one on the firewall) just so I could use the wipers if I needed. Well now that I've done that, anytime I turn the ignition on (I don't even have to touch the wiper switch) my wiper fuse blows and I essentially have no wipers. I have a non-delay switch/stalk. Just knowing that the previous owner had replaced the switch and the fact that it is loose in the column leads me to believe that it is a faulty switch. The one in the steering column (where the turn signal stalk attaches) is for the turn signals only though, right? The only switch which applies to the wipers is the actual stalk itself, correct? Thanks.
