Re: headlight switch, 86 camaro

It apears that the grey (8) that plugs into the cluster is what piwers the lights?? If so i could just hook my autometers light source to one of the three grey(8)s and it should just dim like the stock cluster did? ..on the normal dimmer id like to run my oil prs and water temp(in the pillar) my fuel and volts gauge( in the dash) and my oil temp.. not the speedo and tach.
This way on trips or whatever i can dim these down and leave the tach and speedo. Then id like to be able too hook it up so when the **** is turned all the way too the "off" position it will turn everything ran off the dimmer off obviously but id also like it to turn the speedo off.. so now ill be left with nothing but my tach glowing...

Re: headlight switch, 86 camaro

Right: dash lights are grey.

The dimmer in the dash is downstream of the parking/tail lights. A wire from that "output" goes to the dimmer. If you have things that you want to light up at the same time as the dash lights but full brightness all the time, wire them to the tail lamp circuit.

Don't know of any way to just hook stuff up so that it does what you're talking about. Additional electronic intelligence well beyond what the car was equipped with (remember, it's an ANTIQUE) would be required to make that happen.
