fuel sending unit 82 crossfire

Hey guys. I have a friend with an 82 pace car. All original low mile car. The sending unit for the tank has gone bad and he is being told he can't get an original and the ones from the tpi cars won't work. Anyone have any thoughts on what he should do? Or does anyone know for a fact that the tpi one will work?

Thanks

I'm 95% positive that all sending units are the same electrically. The carb ones have a different pickup.

Re: fuel sending unit 82 crossfire

pretty much as noted above-if just the variable resistor part of the sender is bad,you can replace it with one salvaged from another~1965-90 GM sender-the sender went bad in my '68 chevy pickup and i fixed it with resistor from '84 camaro sender-part was identical

Re: fuel sending unit 82 crossfire

I recently just changed the fuel pump in my 83 crossfire. If he does replace the sending unit, make sure it has 4 lines coming off of it. One sends the fuel, the other 3 are return lines. I know most people will crucify you if you cut a hole in the car to access it, but it works a lot better than dropping everything out of the rear including a full tank of gas. Also, don't drop the ****ing fuel strainer in the tank like I did, 4 minutes of fishing around with my hand just to find it.
