1989 Camaro speedometer problem
1989 Camaro speedometer problem
Hi, I have a 1989 Camaro RS with a speedometer that reads about 20 mph faster at 50 mph. All my gauges work well, it's just the speedo that is off. It has done this since I bought the car a couple of years ago, so I don't know what caused this or when it started. Can anyone tell me where to start looking to fix this problem?

Re: 1989 Camaro speedometer problem
That's a cable driven speedometer on the Camaro. (electronic on Firebird) Somebody has probably changed the transmission or rear end and the drive/driven gears are not correct now. To be that far off you'd probably have to pull the transmission tailshaft and change both gears.
