so in the process of installing a newer radio, the previous owner installed an after market radio with wrong color wire leads. anyone reccomend a way to clean up this wiring a bit? never installed a radio before.. also I noticed a orange and white wire hanging below my dash on the passenger side.. what wite does this go to? thanks
Those wires look like the correct colours for an aftermarket radio, I don't follow what you mean by the wrong wire colours.
There are diagrams in the car audio section of this site that should help you repair this.
I would suggest getting a repair harness from a local car audio shop to put it back to factory and then use a harness adapter to attach the new radio. I suggest this because it's common for people to want to upgrade as more features become available on new radios or as system upgrades dictate a new radio is needed. Much easier to use an adapter each time than cutting the wires shorter each time.
I would go to a junk yard, cut a radio connector off a newer GM car, get some Micro-Pack 100 series terminals, crimp them onto the stock wires, remove the old terminals from the junk yard connector, and put the newly crimped terminals into the connector.
