i have an 86, WS6, 5sp, trans am with a 305. it's completely stock. i bought it for $1,100 a couple years ago and drove it home then raced it around the neighborhood for a couple days and then parked it in my garage. i had to move it into my driveway to work on it but it would not start. i have determined that i'm getting NO SPARK. this may be my fault because i when i put the batter in, i accidentally shorted it out TWICE. damn that pissed me right off. it shorted into frame so i wasn't too worried UNTIL i tried to start it. poured in some gas and NOTHING. i had to push it out of the garage very carefully because i was by myself where it now sits waiting for help. i checked the fuses and the only one blown is the AC fuse. any suggestions on troubleshooting this thing would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

 

No spark at the plugs, or the distributor , or out of the coil?

Put a test light between the coil and distributor to see whether the coil is putting out. If so, it's possibly your pick up coil or ICM. If not, your coil is bad or not getting any current. I travel in the San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Houston area.

the coil is in the distributer cap. how do you test it?

the ICM is good. i had it tested at Advanced Auto Parts.

is the pickup coil in the distributer? gotta check that next.

 

I posted test procedures on your ICM thread but that may not apply to your coil. They procedure should apply to your pick-up coil though if you want to go back and look at it.
