Wiper Motor Wiring
Wiper Motor Wiring
The last peice of the puzzle on my first major project car.
My dad says this can't be done. I need to prove him wrong, again
I have an 87 Firebird harness in my 83 Firebird. Due to the pysical limitations of my firewall, the bolt pattern and depth of the 87 wiper motor I cannot simply use what belongs to the harness.
To add more confusion my wiring seems different from anyone else's who has posted previously about this( they never posted if they fiquired it out as well) .
I could probably fiquire i out if I had a wiring diagram for an 82, 83 only firebird wiper motor. But I don't know what each wire on the 83 motor does. And I'm unsure about the wires 87 harness.
87 steering column installed, so the switch is 87
this didn't turn out how it hoped
4pin connector 2pin connector
Green Grey Yellow Pink - Yellow Pink
Mist 12v 12v - 12v - -
off 12v - - 12v - -
delay - 12v - 10.6-12v - -
low 12v 12v - 12v - -
high 12v 12v - 12v - 12v
with only the two pin connector on the 87 motor the motor only operates in high
yellow must be dependant on something else. hhmm
all I know about electronics is shocks hurt and things smell funny after hook them up wrong.
Now to discribe the big ugly 83 motor;
it appears someone has been here before, there are caps and the connectors, I'm unsure their original, possible this motor is not from a firebird, but it has one inlet and two outlets for the rear wiper fluid (I don't need this anymore).
3pin connection, pump side 3 pin other side
(top left) blk/violet stripe (top) Pink *
dad says this is a gnd
(top right) Two black/white jumper -> (midde)Yellow*
(below) Green (bottom) Grey
With the cover off you can see that the blk/violet and blk/whit wires come from a coper coil.
There is what my dad calls a silencing diode between pink and yellow. I've seen it smoke. After that I thought it was now time to find more info.
Can someone spell this out for me PLEASE. I've been screwing around with this every so often, but now it the last item and the car goes in for a windsheild/paint job as soon as this is done.
Im hoping before Christmas so I can show it off to the relatives. I looks funny being 3/4 metallic blue, red hood, white bumper, primed fenders.
TIA Chris

I whipped up a real crappy diag from the haynes manual. Unfortunatly, it didn't specify the inner working/connections of the module to make it easier to figure out what wire goes to where & does what. Hopefully this helps out somewhat...

I believe on the 83 wiper switch that the black wire is a ground because it shares common connections with the black wires from the gauge lights & a few other items.
