Changing Tail light secuence from F Base to TA

Hello,

I have a base 92 fireird tail light with amber lights, and now I want to change into a 82/84 T/A lights secuence.

I have read this post:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto-...ula-trans.html (Wiring for Firebird/Formula to Trans Am taillight conversion) (Wiring for Firebird/Formula to Trans Am taillight conversion)

and it is an option...., but I want to get the T/A 82 brake/runing/turn secuence.

What more do I have to do?

Thanks __________________

Re: Changing Tail light secuence from F Base to TA

Did you read the whole thread? Farther down in the thread there is a post where someone said they changed the rear harness section with one from a TA, it was plug and play. Doesn't get much easier than that. If you get the tail lights from the jy, try get the harness also. If you have to cut and splice, you should solder and shrink wrap all your splices and if possible, use the shrink wrap that has sealant/glue inside. The sealant melts as the wrap shrinks to a snug fit and the sealant makes for a good waterproof seal. Get the wiring diagrams for your car and the donor car (AustinThirdgen has body wiring diagrams) and compare the 2. You just need to modify your wiring to match the TA wiring.

Re: Changing Tail light secuence from F Base to TA

I took a quick look at the diagrams and it will not work properly without changing the turn signal switch. You can change which bulbs are brakes or turn signals but you cannot combine them without changing the turn signal switch as the TA switch has an extra connection that allows combined brake lights or separate turn signals. The 92 F-body turn signal switch does not have this capability so making your 92 tail lights work exactly like the 84 TA lights would require the 84 TA switch and some under dash wiring mods. Are you just looking for the TA look or do you want the lights to function exactly like the TA lights? How much are you willing to get into this mod?
A good diagram to look at is the 88 body wiring, it actually shows the differences between the regular and the TA wiring, most notably the turn signal switch.

Thanks so much for the info, I want to have the TA secuence, but with all you have said me i think It will be hard, and here in my country I need amber light from anual inspections (rest of the time i running with red lights).
Then im gonna do what they explain in the post, wich means only change some wires.....

Thank you!

Re: Changing Tail light secuence from F Base to TA

I am not so sure your turn signal switch doesn't have the extra terminal on it as GM would not want the extra cost of having 2 different switches made and having to deal with the inventory. If your switch has the M terminal on it, applying +12 volts to that terminal should light your turn signal lights on both sides. If this were the case, you would just run a wire from that M terminal to your brake switch to replace the wire that currently runs back to your brake lights. Then you would have to separate the left and right brake lights and connect them to the appropriate wires to function as brake/turn signal lights. I am not trying to talk you into this mod, just trying to give you as much info so you can make an informed decision. HTH!

I don't know if this will help you or if you decided not to change your tail lights but, TwinTurbo posted in another recent thread about this same or similar mod. TwinTurbo basically verified what I had suspected and says the turn signal switch does have the contacts a wiring down to the connector at the base of the steering column. Along with this info and the wiring diagrams, it should be easy to do this mod. Here is a link to the thread I am referring to. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...lights-us.html

HTH!

P.S. A big thumbs up to TwinTurbo for this info!
