Hella H4 Conversion?

Please reference the following link to Hella H4 reflectors.

Amazon.com: HELLA 003177801 164x103mm H4 High/Low Beam Halogen Conversion Headlamp Kit (ECE): Automotive Amazon.com: HELLA 003177801 164x103mm H4 High/Low Beam Halogen Conversion Headlamp Kit (ECE): Automotive

Will these reflectors fit my 1991 Trans Am?

I would prefer to get the Cibies, but I can't find them anywhere. Were they discontinued?

Can you recommend a true plug-and-play wiring harness with relays so that I can draw power straight from the battery?

Thanks!
Bill

Re: Hella H4 Conversion?

Yes. Stock, your car takes an H4666 sealed beam. The conversions in your link state that they replace the H4666.

You're going to have to deal with the electrical connectors because the H4666 uses a weird angled connector and the H4 bulb terminals are square (to each other). You can make your own relay harness to deal with this. It's not that difficult:

Cibie conversions have been long discontinued but you can still find NOS ones of you're patient enough. Must have been 4-5 years ago, but I found my Cibie hi beam conversions on ebay and the hi/lo conversions from a Mercedes-Benz restoration place.

Edit: Here's a link to some wiring harnesses:

I don't know if GM uses conventional or switched ground type pf system (I don't have my electrical FSM handy).

Re: Hella H4 Conversion?

The terminals in the H4666 connector may fit right into the shell of the H4656 compatible connector that fits the Hella H4 halogen bulb connector if you want to try it out without the relays. I've run the Hella housings this way for a long time.

If you choose to buy a relay harness instead of build, I second RallyLights.com as a good vendor in my experience. I've had my Hella H1 & H4 glass conversions from them for over 10 years. Never had to replace the standard Hella bulb either, but my glass is beaten and could use replaced.

Ask them about their HL282 conversion harness for relay set-up. If that's not the right one, I am sure they can help.

Here are some interesting terminal upgrade options. http://www.cycleterminal.com/headlight-connectors.html
