I've seen a couple good ideas on this board,one was to ditch the HEI electrnic distributer and go with a vac. or mech. advance setup,then connect the tach output to the ECM and simply not use the advance feedback signal. I suppose that you could get lucky and this would work ok,but what about using the electronic feedback signal to control the advance on a non-electronic HEI distributer?? strange idea,I know,the reason I ask is because the CC HEI seems to have hardly any advance capabilities at all. the rotor and shaft are physically ONE solid piece as opposed to a vac. distributer's rotor having 30-40 degrees of "play". I can understand how the ignition module and computer electrically advance the spark in relation to the rotors movment,but that can only occure during the brief duration of the rotor's terminal making contact with the terminals on the cap....it seems like it couldn't do more than a 5 or 6 degree advance. it would take some calibration and some extra circuitry,could it be possible to convert the dist. to still use the computer signals and alter the advance curve too?. how could I tell the actual advance going on in the engine (not what the computer says it's doing) ?? how much should the timing advance from 6* at 5200rpms??
