turn signal issues

Driving down the road, hit a bump and the emer flashers go on, then go off. Hit another bump and the left turn signal light goes and goes off. The right does the same, all at various intermittant random times. Any ideas? Loose sockets, bad grounds, bulbs?

Re: turn signal issues

Most likely, the switch in the steering column is loose or busted somehow.

Easy enough to unplug the connector (big wide one laying flat against the column about even w the bottom of the dash) and see if it quits. If so, it's in the column.

Take off the steering wheel, being VERY CAREFUL with the horn wire under there which is extremely easy to break, and take a look at it.

Yep , Totally agree with Sofa , when you see the little metal strips that are held in the kinda flimsy plastic it's easy to see how it could become so broken/worn as to activate going over bumps . Admittedly that would have to be some pretty big bumps , or a pretty worn/defective switch , but by far the switch is just about the only thing one could think of that would cause this . The only other really REALLY unlikely possibility if it weren't the switch (which I'd bet a buck it is the switch being defective) , it would have to be one pretty darned unlikely "cross short" where several wires were all bare and shorting against each other , and such a damaged section of wiring would be "punch in the face obvious" when looking at the wiring leading from the switch to the harness .
