Turn signal problem
Before you start hating on me I have searched and read through other threads related to this and they didn't help.
I have an 89 iroc and the turn signals work fine when the head lights are off... As soon as I turn the head lights on my left indicator on the dash stays on constant but the signals on the car are off and when turn the left signal on it blinks very slowly (the dash light and the out side signals)..... Right signal works perfectly fine.
Any ideas?? I've been rateling my brain all weekend trying to fix this and came wup with nothing.

Re: Turn signal problem
check and make sure all of your headlights are working, as in none are burnt out. next check the grounds to your headlights. im not sure its exactly the same but i know if lights burn out or the grounding point for the lights is bad they can try to ground through the high beams and turn on the high beam indicator. it could be that yours are grounding through the turn signal on the right. or it could be the other way around and your turn signal is burnt out. also check and make sure your headlight connectors have the wires in the same place on both sides iv heard of others that had similar problems and that was it. my first bet though, beyond burnt out lights, would be that the grounds arent connecting well and while you check the ones for the lights you might as well check the other grounds as well such as the main ground at the battery and your engine grounds. oh and make sure your battery is good if its much past 3 years old its about at the end of its life anyway(yes the can last longer, but not always) and could be causing this and other unseen problems.

Re: Turn signal problem
Is there supposed to be a ground on both side of the headlight harness? I have one on the passenger but on the drivers side (where the problem is) I don't see a ground wire any where

Re: Turn signal problem
that very well could be your problem. i do believe there is. on your plug for the headlights the low beams have three terminals, the ground should be the black one and both sides should have either an individual ground or be connected to the same ground, i believe ive seen it both ways. a way to check the problem is to run an individual ground for the side that does not have one(or doesnt seem to have one). if that fixes it then you are lucky enough to just have to make it permanent, if not then we have to do some more digging. grounds and blown bulbs can do some odd things. and something i just thought of based on your first reply, if the turn signals bulbs in our cars(mine at least do) blow the signal flashes slower. ive seen them blow but still light up just fine, if you know how to look at the bulbs and see if they are good check them, if not just replace them. the turn signal and running lights up front share the same bulb, so one half the bulb can blow and short itself to the other half and could cause the problem. its similar for the rear lights although im 100% sure they are the same bulb arrangement.
